obsessive voyeurism: a look at cinematic representations of beauty through a fetishised lens

objects of desire explores the relationship between cinematic representations of beauty and how the obsessive and voyeuristic nature of this representation can become a structural component of desire.  The project also engages with the ideas of fetishism and scopophilia in order to provide a more complete conceptual framework to the project.

This project consists of two installation pieces that create a relationship between the physicality of the objects (be it the sculpture or project staging) and the ideas of obsession, voyeurism and fetishism through the use of video manipulation and projection.  The relationship formed deals with informing the overall conceptual ideas of the piece by using the artifacts of the piece and creating a dialogue between the physical image and the projected image.  The aesthetic considerations of the two pieces, as well as the theoretical framework in which they were conceived, help to tie the two works together.  They also work in tandem with each other to show differing perspectives and aspects of the underlying themes that have evolved throughout the course of my M.F.A. theoretical and artistic practice.
